Blog #5: Humanities

The humanities have been and continue to be a functional tool in shaping our reality. Art has been a quarreled subject as to what purpose it serves to the human eye and mind. Does it serve as just a feel good activity or does it have a deeper emotional connection to its audience? Art is a human activity that one person, as the author explains, "unconsciously hands on to others feelings they have lived through, and others are infected by these feelings and also experience them." Art, to people who not look beyond face value, do not see the meaning by this explanation. Art is not just a canvas and a paintbrush, art is everywhere. Our everyday actions is art, each persons personality is an art, the way the waves crash onto the shore is art. One just has to have the correct mindset to actually appreciate it. As the author continues "art is not an outlet to escape life but to make it larger." Art in a nutshell, is an appeal to the emotion. The humanities have lasted because there are no rules or restrictions to hold it back. The arts have no limits, and people can explore it to any extent which gives the artist a world of options in portraying their thoughts or emotions through action, speech or paper.

I agree with what Seth says. "Art is not just a canvas and a paintbrush, art is everywhere." Indeed art is everywhere. Every motions, action or movement is a form of art. Art exists in every single aspect if one willing to look at it with an open mind. When thinking about art, don't think of it as one restricted idea, but rather think of it as multi-dimensional ideas. Art have no boundary like Seth was saying. Also the statment Seth pick is interesthing. "Art is not an outlet to escape life but to make it larger." Art gives people the big picture in detail as well as the unlimited ways of thinking. It open up the mind to more ideas and help understand how the world interact. The world is a piece of art of it owns, so we should set our mind to interpret the meaning that the world presented to us. Art is everywhere, why not make it closes to where you at.

I like your interpretation of art. I, too, think that art transcends all boundaries. Art explores the deepest depictions from artists, poets, musicians, and others. Every person’s explanation of art is different and no one has an incorrect definition of art. From my personal experiences I have experienced many types of art. There have been, at times, when I do not like a certain art piece, however, everyone’s perception of art and therefore art is boundless. A correct mindset is also necessary to fully appreciate art. Having bias toward certain types of art will negatively affect the experience of enjoying that particular artwork. Being free from preconceived notions will allow the viewer to fully enjoy art. Art is also a subject in its own. It is completely different from the subjects of science and social science. Unlike science and social science, where a person’s theories can often be disproved, art has no limits or restrictions. No one can disprove a piece of art or a poem because there is never a correct response. Also, one piece of art can produce different feelings, depending on the individual. Unlike the sciences which are straightforward, art often has an abstract approach, and therefore the effect on people in different from person to person. This being said, art is also the one of the most difficult subjects to start and excel in. To master art is to always think “outside of the box.” There are so many different approaches one can take to a certain emotion, action, or subject matter. This is why art is cherished by many and has continued to strive.
